A LOVE STORY SO BEAUTIFUL
IT WAS LIFTED INTO THE SKY.
In The Abduction of Psyche, Bouguereau captures the moment Cupid carries the mortal Psyche upward toward the heavens — weightless, intertwined, suspended between earth and sky. It is one of the most technically flawless depictions of the human form ever painted. DROMEDA takes that soaring, luminous work and rebuilds it across three genuine seven-ply maple skateboard decks — carrying one of academic art's most romantic images into a completely contemporary form.
BOUGUEREAU · REBUILT ACROSS THREE DECKS.
DROMEDA DECK TRIPTYCH
BOUGUEREAU'S
THE ABDUCTION OF PSYCHE
One of the great masterpieces of French academic painting, lifted from its canvas and reconstructed across three pieces of maple.
Three decks. One work.
A note from the founder
“Most pieces sit on our shortlist for weeks. This one didn’t. The moment we laid it across three decks, it just belonged there. Two figures in a dream state, one completely at peace, in colours you rarely see in classical art. For anyone who needs a little more colour in their life.”
— Tarik, Founder of DROMEDA
THE ORIGINAL
The Abduction
of Psyche
Two figures rise through the air, weightless and entwined — Cupid carrying Psyche upward toward the heavens, her body arched in surrender as his wings catch the light.
The story comes from the ancient myth of Cupid and Psyche: a mortal woman so beautiful she drew the love of the god of desire himself, enduring trials and separation before she was finally raised to the heavens to join him.
Bouguereau paints the moment of ascent — the instant the two lovers are reunited and lifted into the sky. There is no struggle here despite the title; only grace, lightness and the pull upward.
It is one of the most technically accomplished renderings of the human form in Western art, finished by Bouguereau in 1895 near the height of his powers.
More than a century later, DROMEDA takes this soaring image beyond its traditional format and rebuilds it across three individual skateboard decks.
THE ARTIST
BOUGUEREAU
William-Adolphe Bouguereau was born in 1825 and became one of the most celebrated and commercially successful painters of nineteenth-century France.
A master of the French academic tradition, he was renowned for his flawless technique, luminous skin tones and idealised treatment of the human figure drawn from mythology and classical themes.
In his lifetime he was showered with honours and his work commanded enormous prices, admired across Europe and America for its polish and emotional warmth.
For a time in the twentieth century his reputation fell out of fashion as tastes turned toward modernism — only to be powerfully rediscovered and re-celebrated in recent decades.
The Abduction of Psyche, painted in 1895, stands among his finest achievements — a work of pure grace, weightlessness and romantic devotion.
A century on, few painters have ever rendered the body with such tenderness.
THE RECOMPOSITION
RECOMPOSED ACROSS
THREE DECKS
DROMEDA takes the original composition beyond the conventional frame.
Rather than reproducing the painting as a single rectangle, the image has been carefully positioned across three individual skateboard decks. The spaces between the boards become part of the composition.
The upward sweep of the figures, the light on their skin and the span of Cupid's wings move across three separate physical objects while remaining connected as a single work.
Viewed directly from the front, the image resolves into Bouguereau's composition. Move around it and the maple edges, concave forms and separation between each deck begin to take over.
THE CONSTRUCTION
SEVEN LAYERS
OF MAPLE
A genuine skateboard deck — not simply the shape of one.
Each DROMEDA deck is constructed from seven laminated layers of maple, pressed together to create the strength, curvature and profile of a genuine skateboard deck.
Look closely at the edge and those individual layers remain visible.
This is important to us. The skateboard isn't simply a shape onto which an artwork has been printed. Its construction is part of the piece.
Each deck retains the defining characteristics of a skateboard: its laminated maple construction, concave profile, raised nose and tail, rounded edge and truck mounting holes.
The artwork is applied across the face of each deck and finished with a satin surface that allows the image to retain its depth without the high-gloss appearance of a conventional reproduction.
Seven laminated layers remain visible along the edge of the deck.
SCALE & FORM
THE OBJECT
Three individual 31 × 8 inch decks form the complete triptych.
Based on approximately 2 inches between each deck.
The result sits somewhere between painting, sculpture and an object from skate culture.
From directly in front, the three images resolve into Bouguereau's composition.
Move around the piece and the experience changes. The curvature of the decks becomes visible. The maple edges appear. Shadows form behind each board.
What initially reads as an image begins to reveal itself as a three-dimensional object.

Once mounted, step back and check the spacing and alignment before making any final adjustments.

Your Dromeda Triptych requires very little maintenance. For everyday cleaning, gently remove dust using a clean, dry microfibre cloth.
Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, household sprays or soaking the surface with water. If required, use a slightly damp soft cloth and dry the surface immediately.
Like other artworks, we recommend keeping your Triptych away from prolonged direct sunlight, excessive moisture and sources of extreme heat to help preserve its finish and colour over time.
Handle the decks with clean, dry hands and avoid placing pressure on the printed surface.

Have questions?
What exactly is included with my Dromeda Triptych?
Each set includes three individually printed 7-ply maple skateboard decks that combine to form one continuous artwork, along with three wall-mounting brackets; everything you need to create the finished triptych.
How big is the Triptych once it's on the wall?
Each deck measures approximately 31 × 8 inches (79 × 20 cm). With our recommended 2-inch spacing between each deck, the complete installation measures approximately 31 inches high × 28 inches wide (79 × 71 cm).
Are these real skateboard decks?
Yes. Each artwork is produced on genuine 7-ply maple skateboard decks, complete with the shape, concave and mounting holes you'd expect from a traditional deck. They're made for display rather than riding.
How difficult is it to hang?
Each set comes with three purpose-made wall mounts — one for each deck. Simply position the mounts at your preferred spacing and hang each deck individually. We recommend approximately 2 inches (5 cm) between decks to recreate the intended composition.
Will the colours look exactly like they do on my screen?
We work carefully to reproduce each artwork accurately, but slight variations in colour can occur between screens and the finished physical print.
The natural maple construction and satin finish also give the artwork a physical character that can't be fully represented on a screen.
What happens if I change my mind?
Your purchase is covered by our 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee. If your Dromeda piece isn't right for your space, contact us within 30 days of receiving it and we'll help arrange the return in accordance with our returns policy.
