DROMEDA David with the Head of Goliath triptych displayed in an interior

VICTORY ISN'T ALWAYS SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE.

CARAVAGGIO KNEW THAT FOUR CENTURIES AGO.

In David with the Head of Goliath, Caravaggio transforms one of history's most familiar stories of victory into something darker, quieter and far more human. DROMEDA takes that extraordinary image and rebuilds it across three genuine seven-ply maple skateboard decks — bringing a seventeenth-century masterpiece into a completely contemporary form.

CARAVAGGIO · REBUILT ACROSS THREE DECKS.

DROMEDA DECK TRIPTYCH

CARAVAGGIO'S
DAVID WITH THE HEAD OF GOLIATH

One of Caravaggio's final and most psychologically charged paintings, removed from the traditional frame and reconstructed across three pieces of maple.

Three decks. One work.

David with the Head of Goliath by Caravaggio
Caravaggio c. 1609–1610

THE ORIGINAL

David with the
Head of Goliath

Caravaggio's depiction of the biblical victory is unusually quiet. There is no celebration. No triumphant crowd. Only David, the sword and the severed head of his defeated enemy.

The story itself is legendary: the young David defeats the giant Goliath against impossible odds. Yet Caravaggio chose not to paint the moment as a straightforward image of triumph.

David looks down towards Goliath with an expression that feels closer to sorrow than victory. Emerging from almost complete darkness, the two figures become locked together psychologically as much as visually.

The image becomes even more personal through Goliath's face, which is generally understood to carry Caravaggio's own features. The victor and the defeated become part of something far more complicated than the original biblical story.

More than four centuries later, DROMEDA takes this intensely personal composition beyond its traditional rectangular format and rebuilds it across three individual skateboard decks.

THE ARTIST

CARAVAGGIO

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio was born in 1571 and became one of the most influential painters of his generation.

At a time when religious painting was often idealised, Caravaggio took a radically different approach. He painted saints, sinners and biblical figures with the bodies, faces and imperfections of real people.

His use of concentrated light against deep darkness gave his paintings an extraordinary physical presence. Figures do not simply occupy the canvas. They emerge from it.

Caravaggio's own life was almost as dramatic as his paintings. Violence, conflict and exile followed him through his later years, during which some of his most emotionally complex works were created.

David with the Head of Goliath belongs to that late period. Rather than presenting David simply as a victorious hero, Caravaggio creates a scene filled with ambiguity, pity, violence and introspection.

Four centuries later, it still feels confrontational.

THE RECOMPOSITION

RECOMPOSED ACROSS
THREE DECKS

DROMEDA takes the original composition beyond the conventional frame.

Rather than reproducing the painting as a single rectangle, the image has been carefully positioned across three individual skateboard decks. The spaces between the boards become part of the composition.

Light, darkness and the relationship between David and Goliath move across three separate physical objects while remaining connected as a single work.

Viewed directly from the front, the image resolves into Caravaggio's composition. Move around it and the maple edges, concave forms and separation between each deck begin to take over.

THE CONSTRUCTION

SEVEN LAYERS
OF MAPLE

A genuine skateboard deck — not simply the shape of one.

Each DROMEDA deck is constructed from seven laminated layers of maple, pressed together to create the strength, curvature and profile of a genuine skateboard deck.

Look closely at the edge and those individual layers remain visible.

This is important to us. The skateboard isn't simply a shape onto which an artwork has been printed. Its construction is part of the piece.

Each deck retains the defining characteristics of a skateboard: its laminated maple construction, concave profile, raised nose and tail, rounded edge and truck mounting holes.

The artwork is applied across the face of each deck and finished with a satin surface that allows the image to retain its depth without the high-gloss appearance of a conventional reproduction.

SCALE & FORM

THE OBJECT

Three individual 31 × 8 inch decks form the complete triptych.

APPROXIMATE INSTALLED SIZE 28 in (71 cm) wide × 31 in (79 cm) high

Based on approximately 2 inches between each deck.

The result sits somewhere between painting, sculpture and an object from skate culture.

From directly in front, the three images resolve into Caravaggio's composition.

Move around the piece and the experience changes. The curvature of the decks becomes visible. The maple edges appear. Shadows form behind each board.

What initially reads as an image begins to reveal itself as a three-dimensional object.

INSTALLATION

Your Dromeda Triptych is designed to be installed as three individual decks, with approximately 5 cm between each piece.

Position the centre deck first, then use it as your reference point for the two outer decks. Carefully measure and level all three mounting points before fixing the supplied wall mounts in place.

Wall construction varies, so always use screws and fixings appropriate for your wall type. If you're unsure, we recommend having your piece professionally installed.

We have setup a dedicated page to guide you on the wall installation here.

Once mounted, step back and check the spacing and alignment before making any final adjustments.

CARE

Your Dromeda Triptych requires very little maintenance. For everyday cleaning, gently remove dust using a clean, dry microfibre cloth.

Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, household sprays or soaking the surface with water. If required, use a slightly damp soft cloth and dry the surface immediately.

Like other artworks, we recommend keeping your Triptych away from prolonged direct sunlight, excessive moisture and sources of extreme heat to help preserve its finish and colour over time.

Handle the decks with clean, dry hands and avoid placing pressure on the printed surface.

Have questions?

What exactly is included with my Dromeda Triptych?

Each set includes three individually printed 7-ply maple skateboard decks that combine to form one continuous artwork, along with three wall-mounting brackets; everything you need to create the finished triptych.

How big is the Triptych once it's on the wall?

Each deck measures approximately 31 × 8 inches (79 × 20 cm). With our recommended 2-inch spacing between each deck, the complete installation measures approximately 31 inches high × 28 inches wide (79 × 71 cm).

Are these real skateboard decks?

Yes. Each artwork is produced on genuine 7-ply maple skateboard decks, complete with the shape, concave and mounting holes you'd expect from a traditional deck. They're made for display rather than riding.

How difficult is it to hang?

Each set comes with three purpose-made wall mounts — one for each deck. Simply position the mounts at your preferred spacing and hang each deck individually. We recommend approximately 2 inches (5 cm) between decks to recreate the intended composition.

Will the colours look exactly like they do on my screen?

We work carefully to reproduce each artwork accurately, but slight variations in colour can occur between screens and the finished physical print.

The natural maple construction and satin finish also give the artwork a physical character that can't be fully represented on a screen.

What happens if I change my mind?

Your purchase is covered by our 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee. If your Dromeda piece isn't right for your space, contact us within 30 days of receiving it and we'll help arrange the return in accordance with our returns policy.
