THE ARTIST

FRIEDRICH FÜGER

Heinrich Friedrich Füger was born in 1751 and became one of the leading painters working in Vienna around the turn of the nineteenth century.

His historical paintings were designed to do more than illustrate events. They used movement, gesture and human expression to make history feel immediate.

The Assassination of Julius Caesar pushes that instinct particularly far.

There is almost no visual escape from what is happening. The figures press into one another, the action converges on Caesar, and the composition feels as though it has been frozen only seconds before everything changes.

It is precisely that tension that allows the work to survive outside its original period.

THE RECOMPOSITION

The traditional frame keeps the image contained. Three curved decks bring it into the room.

DROMEDA takes Füger's original composition beyond the conventional rectangular print and redistributes it across three individual skateboard decks.

The physical spaces between the boards become part of the image itself. Figures separate and reconnect across the gaps, reinforcing the fragmentation already taking place inside the scene.

From directly in front, the three boards resolve into a single composition.

Move around the piece and something different happens. The maple edges emerge. The concave profiles become visible. Each deck begins to cast its own shadow.

That changing perspective gives the artwork a physical presence a flat reproduction cannot offer.

THE CONSTRUCTION

Each DROMEDA triptych is built from three genuine skateboard decks constructed from seven laminated layers of maple.

That construction gives the artwork something a flat reproduction cannot: shape, depth and physical presence.

The decks curve away from the wall. Their maple edges remain visible. Light moves differently across the raised nose, tail and concave centre throughout the day.

From across the room those details create depth. Up close they reveal what the artwork actually is.

The skateboard isn't simply being used as an unusual canvas. Its construction is part of what makes the piece worth looking at.

The artwork is finished with a satin surface that preserves its depth and colour without giving it the glossy appearance of a conventional reproduction.

Seven laminated layers remain visible along the edge of the deck.
