SOME WALLS ARE DECORATED.

OTHERS ARE CURATED.

Cabanel's The Birth of Venus was one of the defining images of nineteenth-century Paris — celebrated at the Salon of 1863 and acquired by Napoleon III. DROMEDA rebuilds it across three genuine seven-ply maple skateboard decks, bringing an icon of classical beauty into a form almost nobody expects to see it in.

FOR SPACES THAT LOOK COLLECTED, NOT DECORATED.

DROMEDA DECK TRIPTYCH

ALEXANDRE CABANEL'S
THE BIRTH OF VENUS

A nineteenth-century icon, removed from the conventional frame and reconstructed as a sculptural three-deck wall piece.

There is a difference between filling an empty wall and choosing the object that defines it.

DROMEDA was created for the latter. Familiar enough to carry cultural weight, unexpected enough to make the room feel entirely your own.

Three decks. One statement.

THE ORIGINAL

The Birth of
Venus

When Alexandre Cabanel unveiled The Birth of Venus at the Paris Salon of 1863, it became one of the exhibition's great successes.

Its subject came from classical mythology: Venus, goddess of beauty and love, born from the sea and carried across the water as winged figures gather above her.

Cabanel rendered the scene with extraordinary refinement. Venus appears almost weightless against the water, her form stretching across the composition while the sea and sky dissolve behind her.

The painting captured the taste of Second Empire France so completely that Napoleon III acquired it at the Salon.

More than 160 years later, the work remains part of the permanent collection of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Its cultural provenance is already established. It does not need to be made important.

DROMEDA does something different with it.

The softness and refinement of Cabanel's Venus are interrupted by the concave surfaces, visible maple edges and repeated geometry of three genuine skateboard decks.

Classical beauty meets an object drawn from modern skate culture. The contrast is precisely what gives the piece its presence.

Recognisable. But no longer ordinary.

THE ARTIST

ALEXANDRE CABANEL

Alexandre Cabanel was born in Montpellier in 1823 and became one of the defining painters of the nineteenth-century French academic tradition.

His career placed him at the centre of the French art establishment. He exhibited repeatedly at the Paris Salon, taught at the École des Beaux-Arts and became one of the most influential painters of his generation.

Cabanel was particularly celebrated for historical, mythological and religious subjects rendered with extraordinary technical control.

Skin, fabric, water and light were painted with a smoothness that made his figures appear almost impossibly refined.

The Birth of Venus represents that approach at its most celebrated. Mythology allowed Cabanel to create an image that was sensual, theatrical and technically immaculate while remaining firmly within the official culture of nineteenth-century Paris.

The result was not simply another successful Salon painting. It became the defining work of his career.

Good taste changes. Great images survive it.

THE RECOMPOSITION

RECOMPOSED ACROSS
THREE DECKS

The intention was never simply to print a famous painting onto a skateboard.

The original composition has been carefully positioned across three individual decks so that the spaces between them become part of the work.

From directly in front, the eye reconnects the image and Cabanel's composition resolves across all three surfaces.

Move even slightly to the side and another object begins to reveal itself. The boards curve away from the wall. Their maple edges become visible. Light begins to fall differently across each deck.

That transformation is what separates the piece from a conventional print.

A framed reproduction remains essentially the same object from every angle. A DROMEDA Triptych shifts between image and sculpture depending on where you stand.

It gives the room depth and visual interest without relying on an ornate frame, oversized canvas or generic wall décor.

The closer someone looks, the more there is to notice.

THE CONSTRUCTION

SEVEN LAYERS
OF MAPLE

A genuine skateboard deck — because the material matters as much as the image.

Each DROMEDA deck is constructed from seven laminated layers of maple, pressed together to create the strength, curvature and profile of a genuine skateboard deck.

Look closely at the edge and those individual layers remain visible.

It is a small detail, but an important one. The skateboard is not simply a silhouette chosen to make the artwork look different. Its construction forms part of the piece itself.

Each board retains the defining characteristics of a skateboard: its laminated maple construction, concave profile, raised nose and tail, rounded edges and truck mounting holes.

Those physical details give the artwork something a conventional print cannot: form.

The artwork is applied across the face of each deck and finished with a satin surface that allows the image to retain its richness without the high-gloss appearance of a mass-produced reproduction.

SCALE & FORM

THE OBJECT

Three individual 31 × 8 inch decks combine to create a piece large enough to anchor a wall without overwhelming the room around it.

APPROXIMATE INSTALLED SIZE 28 in (71 cm) wide × 31 in (79 cm) high

Based on approximately 2 inches between each deck.

From across the room, the piece reads as a single composition.

Move closer and the three individual decks become unmistakable. The concave surfaces emerge, the maple edges become visible and shadows form naturally behind each board.

That balance allows the piece to work as both artwork and object. It commands enough visual space to anchor a room while remaining considerably more restrained than an oversized canvas.

But its real value is not simply its scale.

The objects chosen for a home communicate taste before a word is spoken. Familiar art presented in an unfamiliar way creates the kind of detail people stop to ask about.

The room says more about the person who chose it.

INSTALLATION

Your Dromeda Triptych is designed to be installed as three individual decks, with approximately 5 cm between each piece.

Position the centre deck first, then use it as your reference point for the two outer decks. Carefully measure and level all three mounting points before fixing the supplied wall mounts in place.

Wall construction varies, so always use screws and fixings appropriate for your wall type. If you're unsure, we recommend having your piece professionally installed.

We have setup a dedicated page to guide you on the wall installation here.

Once mounted, step back and check the spacing and alignment before making any final adjustments.

CARE

Your Dromeda Triptych requires very little maintenance. For everyday cleaning, gently remove dust using a clean, dry microfibre cloth.

Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, household sprays or soaking the surface with water. If required, use a slightly damp soft cloth and dry the surface immediately.

Like other artworks, we recommend keeping your Triptych away from prolonged direct sunlight, excessive moisture and sources of extreme heat to help preserve its finish and colour over time.

Handle the decks with clean, dry hands and avoid placing pressure on the printed surface.

Have questions?

What exactly is included with my Dromeda Triptych?

Each set includes three individually printed 7-ply maple skateboard decks that combine to form one continuous artwork, along with three wall-mounting brackets; everything you need to create the finished triptych.

How big is the Triptych once it's on the wall?

Each deck measures approximately 31 × 8 inches (79 × 20 cm). With our recommended 2-inch spacing between each deck, the complete installation measures approximately 31 inches high × 28 inches wide (79 × 71 cm).

Are these real skateboard decks?

Yes. Each artwork is produced on genuine 7-ply maple skateboard decks, complete with the shape, concave and mounting holes you'd expect from a traditional deck. They're made for display rather than riding.

How difficult is it to hang?

Each set comes with three purpose-made wall mounts — one for each deck. Simply position the mounts at your preferred spacing and hang each deck individually. We recommend approximately 2 inches (5 cm) between decks to recreate the intended composition.

Will the colours look exactly like they do on my screen?

We work carefully to reproduce each artwork accurately, but slight variations in colour can occur between screens and the finished physical print.

The natural maple construction and satin finish also give the artwork a physical character that can't be fully represented on a screen.

What happens if I change my mind?

Your purchase is covered by our 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee. If your Dromeda piece isn't right for your space, contact us within 30 days of receiving it and we'll help arrange the return in accordance with our returns policy.
